Our Mission and History

Our Mission

We are dedicated to building a community of skilled employees and innovative business owners. To build such a community takes te efforts of everyone.

Our History

The magic fo the B.O.S.S. Project all started with a cup of coffee in May, 2003 when Becky Peters of the Benefits Planning and Outreach Project saw an article about the new SBDC Director at Highland Community College, Michele Miller. The met for coffee and to talk about the different programs each agency had. A friendship and awareness began.

In June, 2003, Becky brought additional partners to a meeting in Freeport at the SBDC offices. Those at the meeting were: Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS), Self Employment Resource Network (SERN), and Illinois Department of Employment Securities (IDES) Veteran's Services. Together they began a network of services to assist the disability community in the Freeport area.

Before long it became clear that this group of dedicated professionals could serve more community members if there were educational programs offered as well as a referral network. The B.O.S.S. Project was born.

Today, the B.O.S.S. Project helps build communities as well as lives. Together our communities will continue to be the best places to live, work, and grow.
